ACM MMSys'27 will host a Special Session track. This is an opportunity to investigate new or emerging research areas that complement the main conference program with focused and timely topics. Special session proposals should highlight emerging research directions, research gaps, underexplored subjects or interdisciplinary approaches in the broad area of multimedia systems. The aim is to attract and inspire the MMSys community and shape future research trends.

Before preparing your submission, please read the guidelines below carefully.

Each proposal must include:

• Title: a clear and concise title for the special session.
• Organizers: names, affiliations, contact details and short bios of all session organizers; a maximum of 3 organizers is allowed.
• Description: a brief summary (max. 500 words) outlining the motivation for the session and its objectives.
• Diversity and inclusion statement: clarify how the proposal satisfy diversity and inclusion criteria.
• Expected format (e.g., full papers, short papers, invited talks, panel discussion).

Workshop proposals must be submitted to the workshop chairs, Abdelhak Bentaleb and Sara Baldoni, via email, using the submission button shown below. Submissions should follow the special session proposal guidelines specified in this call and be uploaded as a single PDF document.

At most two Special Sessions will be accepted from the open call. Special Session organizers may include invited papers if they want to. Evaluation will be based on:

• Relevance and originality of the proposed topic.
• Complementarity with the main conference track
• Qualifications and diversity of the organizing team (the inclusion of early-career researchers is strongly encouraged)

Upon acceptance, the Special Session will be immediately announced on the website and social channels to allow authors to submit their contributions. Organizers of accepted sessions will serve as meta-reviewers, which includes recruiting reviewers, coordinating, and summarizing reviews. All Special Session papers will undergo the same rigorous review process as regular submissions and must meet equivalent quality standards. Acceptance of a Special Session proposal ensures its inclusion in the conference program.
