ACM MMSys'27 is opening a Call for Workshops proposals to be held in conjunction with the main 2027 conference track, in addition to the yearly consolidated ACM MMVE and NOSSDAV workshops on April 2nd, 2027. The purpose of the workshops is to provide focused forums on emerging, specialized, and potentially interdisciplinary, topics that may not be fully covered within the main conference program or the consolidated workshops. Workshops are intended to encourage in-depth discussion, foster collaboration, and stimulate new research directions across both technical and application-oriented multimedia domains. Workshop organizers are expected to be fully committed and guarantee physical presence (at least part of them) at the workshop. Diversity in organizing teams (e.g., country, area, field, gender) is strongly encouraged. Both half-day and full-day workshops proposals are welcome. All workshops will be provided with an AV-equipped room. For any additional requirements, please detail them in your proposal for their assessment. The ACM MMSys 2027 organisers will provide details of all workshops to ACM for publishing. All papers accepted in every workshop will be published as Workshop Proceedings in the ACM Digital Library.

Workshop organisers are invited to prepare and submit their proposal, in PDF format. The length of the proposal should not exceed 2500 words, and should address all the following points:

• Title, aims and scope of the workshop.
• Rationale: Why is the workshop related and relevant to ACM MMSys? Why may the workshop attract a significant number of attendees and enrich MMSys?
• Format, duration (full or half day), modality (on-site or hybrid), and a draft schedule that indicates the type of intended sessions to be included (keynotes / technical paper sessions / posters / demos / panel).
• Type(s) of submissions/contributions that will be solicited.
• A list of potential contributors (e.g., authors, keynote speakers, panel participants) and the target audience.
• A draft of the Call for Contributions, including addressed topics and type of contributions.
• Plans for disseminating the Call for Contributions and attracting participants (e.g., list of institutions, research projects or communities that are affiliated with the workshop and from which you expect contributions).
• If it applies, workshop history, including previous venues, number of participants, and other relevant associated information.
• Workshop logistics: Detail any special or additional requirements for the workshop, aside from a room with AV equipment.
• Short bios (max. 200 words) of the organisers, including their affiliations and relevant experience in events' organization.
• Optional: title and abstract of potential contributors, keynotes and panelists.

Workshops are preferably held in a completely on-site format, but hybrid organization can be considered. Please indicate your preference in the proposal. However, at least a subset of Workshop Organizers need to be on-site.

Workshop proposals must be submitted to the workshop chairs, Suzanne Kieffer and Mario Montagud, via email, using the submission button shown below. Submissions should follow the workshop proposal guidelines specified in this call and be uploaded as a single PDF document.

All workshop proposals will be rigorously evaluated with respect to their quality, relevance, diversity and suitability for the conference by the Workshop Chairs, assisted by Organizing Committee and Technical Program Committee members. MMSys is an inclusive, growing and interdisciplinary community; if you aren’t sure if the theme, topics and focus of your workshop proposal are in scope, then please email the Workshop Chairs and they will do their best to advise you.

Organisers of all accepted workshops are responsible for setting up a workshop website. They may ask for any kind of contribution to be submitted by workshop participants in advance (e.g. full papers, short papers, posters, demonstrators, videos, datasets, challenges). Organizers will also have to configure a hotcrp venue for their workshop. A support document with guidelines will be shared with workshop organizers, with further details. Accepted workshops might be cancelled (or merged with another workshop that addresses a similar topic) if too few contributions are received and/or few attendees (less than 8) register.
